What a wedding!
Janko and Magdaleen are probably the most intelligent people in most rooms. They’re possibly also the nicest.
These two met each other in Germany where they both worked as mathematicians. Janko, who is originally from Germany, was blown away by this girl from the Kalahari with her infectious laugh. Magdaleen told me she knew after that first date that there was trouble – she was falling in love! And with a man who lived so far away!
This wedding is what you would call a family (and friends) affair. Every little thing had some kind of symbolism. Skaapboud, Sprinbok meat pies, confetti and many other decorations and tidbits were brought to the cape from the Kalahari. Wall art was supplied by Janko’s father. One could feel the love in every detail and every speech (in Afrikaans and German).
The day had many surprises – from confetti that a family member forgot at home (and had to be fetched in record time), to Magdaleen and Janko being the tourist highlight in Stellenbosch.
Thank you to Ingrid van der Walt for being a great assistant.
